Archpastoral Visit 2011

Ukrainian Orthodox Parish Welcomes Archpastoral Visit

The Labor Day weekend brought smiles to the parishioners of Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church congregation in Whaleyville, MD, as they welcomed in their midst the spiritual fathers of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA: His Eminence Archbishop Antony and His Grace Bishop Daniel. The church is a renewed parish community of multiethnic Orthodox Christians from Virginia, Deleware, and Maryland that have settled around Ocean City and the nearby beach communities. The parish celebrated its 53 year anniversary this summer, however the church building is a historic landmark, over 150 years old, and the church bell is over 200 years old!

His Eminence Archbishop Antony and His Grace Bishop Daniel paid a spiritual visit to the parish family, leading the congregation in the celebration of Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom. In the their remarks, following the Gospel reading, both hierarchs called upon the faithful to open their hearts and comprehend the meaning of the Lord’s commandments in their lives, even though at times we are confronted with the difficult decisions that effect our faith in a world of secularization.

Following the liturgical services, the hierarchs visited with the faithful and took part in a luncheon hosted in their honor. The spiritual needs of the congregation are served by a faithful and dedicated group of clergy of the Church: Very Rev. Stephen Hutnick, Very Rev, Gerald Ozlanski, and Very Rev. Mark Koczak. The parish web site is www.HolyTrinityUOC.Org, where more information is available.
